Travelling with kids takes more planning. After a flight, the last thing a family needs is a taxi queue, a car with no room for the pushchair or a ride without a child seat. This guide covers what you need to know to organise your family’s transport from Porto Airport safely and calmly.
Child seats: the rules in Portugal and how to request one
In Portugal, children under 12 and under 135 cm tall must travel in a restraint system suited to their weight and size: a rear-facing seat for babies, a harnessed seat for toddlers and a booster for older kids.
Taxis and ride-hailing cars generally don’t carry child seats. With a pre-booked transfer, just tell us when you book:
- how many children are travelling;
- each child’s age and, if possible, weight;
- whether you need an infant seat, a child seat or a booster.
Luggage and pushchairs
Families travel with more: big suitcases, a pushchair, a nappy bag and sometimes the child’s own car seat. Choosing the right vehicle makes all the difference:
| Family | Recommended vehicle | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 2 adults + 1 child | 4-seat car | Room for a child seat and medium bags |
| 2 adults + 2 kids with pushchair | 6-seat vehicle | Extra space for pushchair and large bags |
| Family of 5 or 6 | 6-seat vehicle | Everyone together, with luggage |
| 7 or 8 people | 8-seat van | One vehicle instead of two taxis |
Larger families and groups
Travelling with grandparents, cousins or friends? Instead of splitting into two taxis, an 8-seat van takes everyone together with the luggage. Since the price is per vehicle, split across the group it becomes very competitive.
Why booking ahead matters
- The right vehicle and child seats are guaranteed.
- Your driver tracks the flight and waits in arrivals, even if you’re delayed.
- You know the price before you travel: no surprises.
- No hunting for a ride with tired kids in your arms.
A transfer for the whole family

Comfort on the way
A private transfer is direct, with no stops and no other passengers. The family travels together in air-conditioned comfort, straight to the door of your hotel or apartment. On longer trips, such as to the Douro Valley, that matters even more.
Checklist for travelling with kids
- Flight number and arrival time included in the booking.
- Each child’s age and weight, for the right seat.
- Pushchair and number of suitcases noted.
- Snacks and water for the ride to your accommodation.
- The exact address of your accommodation, including the door number.
- A phone with WhatsApp to stay in touch with the driver.
Babies and longer journeys
Even babies must travel in a suitable rear-facing seat, never on a lap. On longer trips, such as to the Douro Valley, Aveiro or Santiago de Compostela, plan around naps and meal times.
